God’s Heart for the Lord

In just a few verses God’s singular mission, and His heart for the lost, is fully on display. The vastness of His mercy, love and grace is beyond what we can imagine.

  • In Genesis Chapter 12 God calls out Abram to be the Father of the Israelite nation and promises, “I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and so you shall be a blessing; and I will bless those who bless you and the one who curses you I will curse. And in you ALL THE FAMILIES of the earth will be blessed.”

  • In Psalm 67:2 the people of Israel worship together declaring to God “Your way may be known on the earth, your salvation among all nations.”

  • The prophets continually speak of God’s heart for the world. In Isaiah 45:22, the prophet cries out on behalf of God, “Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; For I am God, and there is no other.”

  • John 3:16 declares “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

  • In 1 Timothy 2:4 we read that God “desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

  • And finally in 2 Peter 3:9, “The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.”

In these verses, we see the magnitude of God’s heart. He loves the world. He loves you. He loves me. And he wants no one to perish in their sin and thus spend eternity condemned in hell. Which is why the cross is so important. Without the cross there is no forgiveness of sin. Without the cross there is no way of rescue. Without the cross there is no redemption. The cross is where the love of God was poured out for the sins of the world. It is at the cross where you find salvation. So let’s keep preaching the gospel to others who are lost and to ourselves you need to daily be reminded of God’s love.
